Show six first go through cryotesting. Credit: NASAYes, this is a gold surface, not as you might think as it is very thin (read below). This is a milestone of sorts so hopefully everything goes well.
Here's the press release mnas a:
The six sections of engineers technicians Guide to the James Webb Space Telescope's mirror drive after the completion of final tests this week bmrshl cryogenic temperatures. (NASA/Emmett given)
The first six of the 18 units in the form of mirror NASA's James Webb Space Telescope's primary for final observations completed space cryogenic temperatures tests this week. Test series included two ten-week testing cycles where the mirrors were cooled down to -379 degrees Fahrenheit, and then return temperature to ensure ??????? respond as expected to the extreme of the area.
A second group of trains look six reach Marshall at the end of July to begin testing and final set of six will come in the fall.
X-ray and cryogenic temperatures facility in the center of the NASA Marshall space flight, Ala. provides the environment space to help engineers to measure how well the telescope images infrared sources once in orbit.
Each section shows measures approximately 4.3 m 1.3 form 21.3 ft diameter (6.5 meters), an Assembly of hexagonal mirror telescope critical for infrared observations. All assemblies hexagonal mirror weighs 18 pounds, about 88 (40 kilograms). The mirrors are made of light and strong metal called beryllium coated with a thin coat of microscopically activating mirror collection efficiency of infrared light by gold.
Engineers ready to crane to lift a piece of the James Webb Space Telescope's mirror off the stand after completing final tests this week bmrshl cryogenic temperatures. (NASA/Emmett given)
The telescope is an integrated project of NASA, European Space Agency, Canadian Space Agency. Northrop Grumman is the Prime ????? under space flight Center of NASA Goddard's Green bahgora Staten, Maryland air ball company technologies & rock, Colo, responsible for the development of a mirror. L-3-Tinsley Inc. laboratories in Richmond, Calif. responsible for the appearance of "grinding and polishing.
